About Present Moment Mindfulness...
Present Moment Mindfulness was formed in the spring of 2004. Lynn Koerbel, MPH and Melissa Tefft, LICSW were interested in creating an organization in the Pioneer Valley that offered the 8-week course based on Kabat-Zinn’s pioneering work. Since its inception, Present Moment Mindfulness has offered nine cycles of classes, including a second level course for graduates. Lynn and Melissa also present mindfulness workshops for organizations, conferences, businesses and the community at large. They are available for organizational consulting, as well as private sessions for individuals.
About the facilitators...
Melissa Tefft, LICSW, has been a psychotherapist for more than 20 years, working with adults, adolescents, and groups. She attended the teacher training in Mindfulness-Based Stress-Reduction in 1995 and has been facilitating mindfulness groups for 13 years. Melissa has a special interest in mind-body medicine, and has been leading mindfulness groups for cardiac patients for eight years.
Lynn Koerbel, MPH, maintained a private practice in integrative bodywork for over 20 years. She attended the MBSR teacher training in 2004, and went on to teach MBSR in Worcester at the Center for Mindfulness. In 2006, she received her Master's Degree in Public Health at UMass Amherst, focusing on mindfulness as a public health initiative.
Melissa and Lynn repeatedly experience how inspiring it is to introduce people to MBSR and the self-discovery that can result. “People literally ‘wake up’ to themselves, their potential and the depth of their own wisdom. Participants are often surprised at the sense of joy, possibility and insight that frequently arises in the context of mindfulness. This is no small thing when dealing with medical crises and difficult life situation. The learning and sharing that emerges from people’s experience is illuminating for the whole group.”
